A family with its own tradition and values,started many decades ago from a place called EdamattomPallattu in Kottayam districtin Kerala.They have a well settled position not only in India but also abroad. The members of this family are not only in different parts of India but also in many developed countries like United States of America ,Rome,South Arabia multiplying the family's honour and fame with their professional expertise in the field of education,politics , journalism etc. In this note we go through a rough idea of the family history. Since we don't have any knowledge about many members of the old generations, we regret to skip off the details about them.Now with the help of the eldest member of this family ie J M Thomas (Thomachen)of Kottayam,we get a picture about the members of our family and how it branched.We belong to Edamattam Pallattu family. The family starts with two avakashi sisters of Pallattu family of Edamattom , in Kottayam . The eldest sister was married to Abraham of Ambara Moolechalil who stayed at Pallattu family Edamattom. The youngest sister was married to Thommen, younger brother of Abraham and stayed at Kuruvinal Kunnel, ie. The two sisters of Pallattu family were married by two brothers of Ambara Moolechalil family.Thus the two families came into existence. The Kuruvinal Kunnel Thommen didn't have sons for two -three generations and as a result their family asset remained the same. Abraham had six sons.They started living at different places ---Pallattu , Elanjimattom , Kizhake Puthiyadom , Padijara Puthiyadom,. Pullikkatharae , and Kelamattom. The youngest of all the six brothers -Itty Ipe , lived at Kelamattom Mattappallil (The place is in Vellakumadom Parish) .He had three sons by name- Pappen , Thommen, and Mathai. Pappen (Vadakke velikattu Mattappallil) married twice. In the first marriage he had a son Mathai and in the second marriage three sons---Kunju ,Kunjuouseph and Kunjuvarkey. Mathai married from Kuttikattu .He had four sons-Kunju(died in early ages). Thommen,Devasia and Mathai( Pappen). Devasia settled at Vellaramkunnu( in Periyar).Mathai settled at Peruvanthanam. Thommen had two sons-Mathai and Joseph ,of them Mathai settled in Koruthode, and Joseph at Mukkuttoothara. Second son of Itty Iype- Thommen married from Kappallumakkal Mattappallil of Poovaranni. He had a son and daughter.The son Thommen married Annama of Thondanadu in Paika and stayed in her house .Daughter is married to Kunjeppu of Ezhathupuzha,Karimala. Thommen had four sons- Joseph Anto,Thomas, and Abraham .They are staying at Paika. Third son of Itty Iype-Mathai stayed at Kelamattom Thekkae Mattappallil .He had married twice. His first wife was from Elayachaniyil, Bharanaganam. His second wife is from Puthuprampil , Kanjirapally. In his first marriage he had two sons.-Chacha and Thommen and one daughter. Chacha had two sons- Joseph and Mathai and five daughters.His wife was from Ambara Athikarathil.His son Joseph stayed at Kanjiyar. He too had married twice. His first wife was from Chilambikunnel and second wife was from Pulickathundiyil of Kanjirapally. The only son from first marriage of Joseph lived at Kappayampadiyil. In his second marriage he had eight children.Roseli,Tessy,Mariamma,Susamma,Jameskutt y,Kennedy,Alex and Ittaliya. Chacha's second son Mathai stayed at Eddakkunnam and is now in Malabar. Mathai (son of Itty Iype,Thekkae Mattappallil) 's second son Thommen(from1st marriage )stays at Seethathode and has one son. Mathai's (Itty Iyp's third son) , second marriage from Puthuparampil, Kanjirapally gave him one son Kunjuouseph and four daughters. Kunjuouseph stayed at Madukkakuzhy,Thampalakadu. His sister Thresiamma was married to Chilambil of Elikulam. They are now at Kurachundayil ,Kozhikode. Second sister Kunjuali died having no children. Third one , Annamma was married to Keeramchira of Peruvanthanam.The fourth sister Mariamma was married to Pathikkal of Anickadu. Kunjuouseph, s/oMathai 's second marriage, s/ o Itty Ipe (3rd son), s/ o Abraham Pallattu ( 6 the son who stayed at Kelamattom Mattappallil) married Mariamma of Kunnumpuruth , Thampalakadu and stayed at Madukkakuzhyil kara. They had 3 sons and 8 daughters. 1, Ousepachen Madukkakuzhyil, was a planter who married Kunjamma of Manjadi ,Chirakadavu and stayed at Peruvanthanam. He has two sons and two daughters. Pappachen worked as a teacher who married Marykutty of Kanjooparampil,Nedumudi. They have two sons - Jose, Antoachen, and four daughters. Thomachen was in government service department. He married Amminni of Koothrapally house, Changanacherry. They have five sons- Roy,Georgekutty, Appachen, Siby, Tomy. Daughters- Theyyama married to Monichen of Elanjickal ,Alapuzha . They have two sons and two daughters. Marykutty married to Devasiachen of Kavalam Kochpurackal . They have two sons and one daughter. 2, Kunjuthomachen Mattappallil, (J.M Thomas) worked as a high school teacher and retired as the head master of Holy Family High School Kottayam.His wife Mariamma was the daughter of Ittoop Mampilli Editor of Malabar Herald,Fort Cochin . They have one son and three daughters. Prem is an electrical engineer working with the government of USA who married Molly of Thanchenkary, Chenganacherry . She is a doctor who also works in America .They have a son Nithin and a daughter Nitha. They are settled in Chicago U. S. A. Daughters-Reema retired as the professor in mathematics from St. Dominics college , Kanjirapally. She is married to Babychen (Sebastian) of Athirampuzha Kochpurackal family .He retired as the senior manger from South Indian Bank. They have a daughter Rintu and a son Sachin. They are now at Vazhakkala, Ernakulam. Tessy retired from Cochin University (CUSAT) as the professor in electronics.she is m arried to Jimmichen (Ignatius) of Edayadil family of Nedumkunnam. He is the manger in the law department of the Catholic Syrian Bank. They have two daughters,Tuttu and Tijina, and a son Jijun. They stay at Edappally ,Cochin. Jyothis retired as the Dean of the college of engineering Trivandrum. She was the professor in civil engineering. She is married to Jose (C C Joseph) of Parappur Chittilappally family.He is working as a senior scientist in V S S C Trivandrum . They have a daughter Joemol and a son Jojin. They are settled at Pongmodu ,Trivandrum. 3, Antony Madukkakuzhyil,(Appachen ) married Gracy of Mavelikara and was working as an officer in Weights and MeasurementDepartment and settled at Raipur in Madhya Pradesh. They have four sons and a daughter. Baby (Joseph) , a journalist, married Mercy Hemalata daughter of E M Pareira and is settled at Raipur .He has three children, one son and two daughters. Son Rajesh and daughters,Seema andNeeta . Babu(Mathew), security officer in Coal India, married Mary Augustine ,sister of Mercy Hemalata.They are settled at Nagpur.Their children are Princely and Nimmy . Raju works at Public Works Department.He has two daughters Rini and Mini . Ravi (Thomas)is doing business and has a son Rohit and a daughter Rubi . Jacky, the only daughter of Appachen is married to Vinay Elias who belongs to a Punjabi Christian family, and is settled in Jabalpur.They have a daughter Dipti and a son Sunny . Daughters of Kunjuouseph -Mariamma family are 1, Kunjumammi was married to Chackochen of Kulangaramuriyil in Chirakadavu.They have eight children,three boys and five girls of whom one is a nun in the clarist congregation. 2,. Kunjumariamma was married to Pailoochen of Urampackal ( Njalathuvayalil) of Kanimala. They have ten children.Out of ten children,two sons are priest and one daughter is a nun in the S H congregation. 3, Kunjuanna was married to Kochu (Varkey) of Kochumuriyil, Cheruvally . They have five sons . Appachen,Joseph,Antoy,Thomachen, and James(Thankachen ).Joseph is a capuchin priest now serving at Bharanaganam Assisi Ashram . 4, Aleykutty was married to Kochu(Pailoochen's brother) of Urampackal family in Kanimala. They have twelve children.One daughter is a nun in the CMC congregation. 5,. Thresiamma was married to Mathaikunju of Angadyil,Manimala . They have six children. One son Joseph(Ousepachen) is a cuppuchin priest and a daughter is a nun in the clarist congregation. 6, Achamma was married to Kuttapan of Vayalinkkal(Vadakkumpuruthu ) of Elamkulam . They have two sons, Baby and Raju who is a bachelor. 7, Pennamma was married to Kochu of Vattakkuzhy family in Vazhoor.They have seven children. Two sons,Jose and Johnny are staying at Chempalam, Iddukki. Eldest son,Baby (Abraham) retired from Federal Bank and stays at Ponnkunnam.Tomy is settled at Ettumanoor,in Kottayam district.They have three daughters Ruby,Mercy, and Rosamma. 8, Claramma, eight daughter,was a nun in the clarist convent at Bharanaganam. She was the Head mistress of the convent school for many years and also the Mother Superior of the clarist convent. Sr.Crucifix played a role in the formation of the library of Sr. Alphonsa. Details of Kunnumpuruth Mariamma --------- Thommam came from Angamali and settled at Thampalakadu, Kunnumpuruth ..He had six sons and they all stayed there with the following family names - --Kunnumpuruth, Kathanattu ,Vettath ,Thekkumthottathil ,Vadasserry ,Vattakkat respectively.The one who stayed at Kunnumpuruth had three sons and four daughters.Thomas stayed at Vazhapallil ,Chackochen at Kunnumpuruth house, and Devasiaat Thumpel .Eldest of the daughters was given in marriage to Ottaplackal of Chirakadavu.Second daughter was married to Njalathuvayalil of Kanjirapally .Third person was married to Mannamplackal Kochu Kunnumpuruth ( Karakkamattom ) of Chirakadavu .The youngest daughter Mariamma was married to Kunjuouseph of Kelamattom Mattappallil (Thampalakadu Madukkakuzhy) . Kunjuouseph died on 26thDec.1963 at the age of 83,at Ousepachen 's residence at Peruvanthanam and Mariamma died at the residence of Thomachen at Kottayam. Thus the Kunjuouseph -Mariamma branch of Mattappallil -Madukkakuzhy family have eleven children with sixty three grandchildren and many more great grandchildren. At present only two members Mariamma ,wife of Thomachen Kottayam and daughter Achamma ,Elamkulam are alive . Appachen of Kulangaramuriyil , Pappachen Theyyamma,and Thomachen of Madukkakuzhy, Peruvanthanam, Mary, and Sr.Maria Dasi of Urampackal, have passed away.
